Adrift in an Abstract Sea

I spotted this Mallard duck today as it floated along in what seemed to be an abstract painting with colors spilling out all around. The sun peaked through the surrounding Autumn foliage lighting up the neon green of the bird’s head and neck while the reflections of the environment were washed away in the ripples.

Nature’s Mirror

I was happy to find this shoreline of Autumn colors reflected in a small lake yesterday. I enjoy finding tranquil scenes such as this.

Orange of October

The forests changing to vibrant orange in October aren’t the only places to find this beautiful color in Autumn. I also found the sun’s fading rays at the end of the day painting Lake Michigan with the pumpkin color last Monday. This lonely boat had its sails lowered for the Captain to enjoy the tranquil view.

Walk Along the Beach

I noticed this couple walking along the beach in South Haven, Mi. as the sun was setting over Lake Michigan today.

Nice Discovery

As I noticed a butterfly floating near some flowers in the distance, I moved in to photograph it. But as I arrived, the butterfly had flown away. As I looked closely examining the flowers, I discovered a fly glistening in the sunlight displaying its own colors. One of the nice things about nature photography is that you never know what you may run across 🙂

Summer Solstice

The longest day of the year here in Michigan had plenty of sunshine as this Tiger Swallowtail butterfly demonstrated, soaking up the sun and nectar from flowers in a local field I discovered.

Burst of Orange

This male Baltimore Oriole discovered some pieces of fruit in the suet cake I had placed outside recently. Its burst of orange feathers caught my eye and moments later I was photographing him as he enjoyed a snack. The coloring was bright and vivid adding beauty to the day.

Red-bellied

I had placed an orange outside to see what birds might be drawn to it. To my surprise, a Red-bellied Woodpecker took some interest. Its red head and patterned back along with the subtle, but unique, coloring of its belly made for a beautiful sight 🙂

“i” in the Sky

The sun and its reflection in Lake Michigan formed a beautiful “i” with the sunset last night. The beauty of nature never fails to amaze me. I hope you enjoy this moment as I did capturing it with my camera 🙂

First Steps

I captured the moment this little one walked from a man to a woman, most likely its parents, on the north breakwater light in Ludington, Michigan’s Stern park as the sun was setting. This lighthouse was voted one of the top 10 lighthouses to see in the U.S. by the Weather Channel. I think this family moment added its own beauty to the scene.
