Adrift in an Abstract Sea

I spotted this Mallard duck today as it floated along in what seemed to be an abstract painting with colors spilling out all around. The sun peaked through the surrounding Autumn foliage lighting up the neon green of the bird’s head and neck while the reflections of the environment were washed away in the ripples.

Nature’s Mirror

I was happy to find this shoreline of Autumn colors reflected in a small lake yesterday. I enjoy finding tranquil scenes such as this.

Enter the Behemoth

There is quite a bit happening in this image I captured today. The giant Great Lakes freighter Calumet, built in 1973, weighing in at over 10,000 tons and 630 feet long (192 meters), was entering the channel at Grand Haven, Michigan. The ship dwarfed the Lighthouse as a kite boarder in the foreground took in the view.

Orange of October

The forests changing to vibrant orange in October aren’t the only places to find this beautiful color in Autumn. I also found the sun’s fading rays at the end of the day painting Lake Michigan with the pumpkin color last Monday. This lonely boat had its sails lowered for the Captain to enjoy the tranquil view.

Tall Ship

The tall ship, Friends Good Will, sailed out of the channel in South Haven, Michigan today on its way to the big lake. The ship is a reproduction of the original sailing vessel which had its maiden voyage in 1811.

Just Passing Through

I spotted this Monarch butterfly as it was passing through during its Autumn migration south. It spent several minutes enjoying the flowers as I was fortunate enough to have been there with my camera.

Evidence of Beauty

A Blue Jay left evidence of its beauty in the form of a feather I found yesterday. I saw one fly overhead close by before noticing the feather a few minutes later.

Stars of the Equinox

After driving down a westbound road, directly into the blinding sun as it was setting, I waited until dark to capture the beauty of the stars on this Autumnal Equinox. I also managed to find a shooting star in one image in addition to a portrait of the moon I took shortly after the sunset.
