The forests changing to vibrant orange in October aren’t the only places to find this beautiful color in Autumn. I also found the sun’s fading rays at the end of the day painting Lake Michigan with the pumpkin color last Monday. This lonely boat had its sails lowered for the Captain to enjoy the tranquil view.

As a tribute to Earth Day I decided to capture a sunset over Lake Michigan at the end of the day. A seagull happened to fly by at the appropriate moment which seemed to add something special to the image.

Late this afternoon, I was pleased to spot these ice formations on Lake Michigan at Pier Cove. There was almost no wind which hasn’t happened very often during my visits to the lakeshore. The ice gently floated, swaying with the little wave activity that was present.

The waves of Lake Michigan themselves can make for a great photographic subject. Each is unique and ever changing. In this case I caught the sun backlighting the wave, revealing luminous shades of green at the wave’s peak.

I found this stream flowing into Lake Michigan today not far from Fennville, Michigan. I used the reverse “S” compositional technique along with the choice of monochrome to enhance the mood.
