Stars of the Equinox

After driving down a westbound road, directly into the blinding sun as it was setting, I waited until dark to capture the beauty of the stars on this Autumnal Equinox. I also managed to find a shooting star in one image in addition to a portrait of the moon I took shortly after the sunset.

Summer Solstice

The longest day of the year here in Michigan had plenty of sunshine as this Tiger Swallowtail butterfly demonstrated, soaking up the sun and nectar from flowers in a local field I discovered.

Dune Landscape

I ventured out to the State Park in Ludington, Michigan today where there were diverse landscapes including sand dunes, marshes and vernal pools. This particular image was one of my favorites for the day, showing those elements under a blue sky.

Sign of Spring

This morning I saw the first robin of the year here as the skies were sunny and beginning to melt the recent snowfall. Its been a mild winter in Southwest Michigan, although the month of March has been colder and had its share of snowfall so far. I’m looking forward to no more snow soon until next winter 🙂

Sand Dune

I spotted this group of children as they climbed down a large sand dune along the shore of Lake Michigan today. Giving a sense of scale to an image can add impact, especially when a given subject is as large as this sand dune was.

Pink Surprise

I found this little pink colored surprise waiting for me outside my door today and had to share it here. It actually was quite large for moths I’ve seen, this one measuring about 4 inches wingtip to wingtip. Its been a while since I posted, hopefully I’ll have more time the rest of this summer. In the meantime, enjoy nature’s work of art here 🙂

Note: A good friend of mine pointed out that this is probably an Imperial Moth. Here’s a link with more info 🙂

In Touch with Nature

With the sun shining brightly today, I decided to take a journey outdoors to get in touch with nature and at the same time hopefully find a few subjects worthy of capturing with my camera. You can be the judge if I succeeded 🙂

A Touch of Winter

Today brought a touch of Winter to Southwest Michigan. With the snow freshly fallen, I found this walkway as an interesting subject to show the beginning of the snowy season here.

Appreciation of Nature and the Outdoors

I recently created this video showing some of the work I’ve done. I hope you enjoy it. 🙂

Lake Michigan Ice

Late this afternoon, I was pleased to spot these ice formations on Lake Michigan at Pier Cove. There was almost no wind which hasn’t happened very often during my visits to the lakeshore. The ice gently floated, swaying with the little wave activity that was present.
